Kandy, also known as the Senkadagalapura is a scared city in the hill country of Sri Lanka. It was the last kingdom of Sinhala kings. The city and the people holds a proud heritage and is inherited with the typical Sri Lankan culture. This flourishing hill-country capital is the natural gateway to a rich central region of tea plantations, waterfalls and mind-blowing sceneries.
The heritage city of the central province is known to everyone as Kandy city, and it is called The Great City (“Maha Nuwara”). It is situated in the central highlands of Sri Lanka. Beautiful hills that are loaded with tropical vegetation around the city. Up to the British invasion of Sri Lanka in 1815, Kandy served as the nation’s capital. Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe was this intriguing city’s final ruler. August is the best month to visit Kandy since that is when the Kandy Perehara, the city’s most vibrant festival, takes place. The city hosts a 10-day celebration of this occasion, complete with drummers, elephants, dancers, and whip crackers.

The Kandy Lake, often referred to as the Kiri Muhuda (“Sea of Milk”) by locals, is located right adjacent to the Dalada Maligawa. A man-made lake that was created in 1807 by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe is located in the center of the city.
