About Ella City
Ella is a small town in Badulla district in the Uva province. It is located about 136 km from Kandy. The Ella area has a high multifariousness, covered with a variety of plants and animals. This small town is encircled by mountains covered in tea plantations and heavy forests. Ella is best known for its Nine Arch Bridge, Diyaluma Falls, and the Kandy to Ella train ride, which is the most fascinating in Sri Lanka.The Nine Arch Bridge, also known as the Bridge in the Sky, is a colonial-era railway viaduct bridge. It is located between Ella and Demodara railway stations. The bridge is a tourist hotspot because of its architectural ingenuity and the panoramic view of the hills. Diyaluma Falls is the second tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka, standing at a height of 220m (720 ft). It is located about 6km away from Koslanda in Badulla District on the Colombo-Badulla highway. The fall is formed by a tributary river of the Kuda Oya known as the Punagala Oya. The train trip from Kandy to Ella or vice versa is a trip you should never miss in Sri Lanka. The train runs through the plantations, waterfalls, and mountains with spectacular scenery.
Kandy to Ella Drop and Pick Up
The Ella-Kandy or Kandy-Ella tour is unique in Sri Lanka.The tour starts from Kandy or Ella. This is a one-way trip, and the stop is either at Ella or Kandy. The tour visits a few places on the way to the destination in the order they are located in the journey.
The tour begins in Kandy with a visit to the Damro tea factory; as Sri Lanka is the fourth largest producer of tea and the hill country is the heart of tea plantations, it is a must to visit a tea plantation, and Damro is the most easily accessible.
Formally known as Mackwoods tea plantation, Damro tea center is the oldest tea center in Sri Lanka. The area of the plantation is around 5000 hectares. About 1000 tea pluckers work there. The factory tour is free of charge, and when it ends, you have a chance to taste fresh tea.
The next stop is Ramboda Falls, which is the 11th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka, standing at 109m (358ft).It is situated in the Pussellawa area at the Ramboda pass and itโs formed by the Panna Oya. To arrive at the waterfall, you need to take the trail, which is only close to the main road. The difficult move to see this 12m tall excellence is a pleasant climb and steps are set up in the way until you arrive there.
Then you will be taken straight to your overnight hotel in Ella. If the tour starts from Ella, the order changes to first Ramboda Falls, then the Damro tea factory, and straight to Kandy.
